Child Care Facilities

I just completed a survey on child care in BC. It was quick and easy, and I think that many of us should do that. It might make a difference.

Here’s the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=245063862309

It was extremely hard for me to find the right daycare for my son almost three years ago. I got a list of about 30 child care centres from my local Child Care Resource and Referral Progam. I phoned every single one of them, and only eight had openings. I visited all, and there was literally only one where I would have happily left my child. Even that one is not in walking distance. I was hoping to find something that we could have walked to, or the grandparents could have walked to pick my son up. No such luck. After going through some trouble getting an extension and writing several requests to the local governing body, my son got in and has been very happy there ever since. The moment I got pregnant with my daughter, I told the owner of the daycare that we would need care for her from the age of 7 months or so, so she has been on the waiting list for over a year, and hopefully we will be able to start taking her there as of this fall.

I know the stress I went through finding the right place for my children, and I am grateful every single day that I have.
